The Slide Podcast

Welcome to The S.L.I.D.E. Podcast. We started this journey in 2022 with the goal of keeping the show as a local broadcast but then it quickly changed into national format. We discovered so many parents, coaches and players throughout the country who could benefit by having our show speak to the nation.

Where Baseball Feels Like Being a Kid Again

Where Baseball Feels Like Being a Kid Again takes listeners inside Diamond Oaks Ranch in Texas, where baseball is only part of the experience. Coach Aaron and Big E welcome Chris Shelton back to the show after Diamond Oaks completed its first season of tournaments and opened the ranch to families looking for something different from the traditional weekend baseball grind.

A Baseball Resort Built Around the Whole Family

Chris explains how Diamond Oaks Ranch has grown into a 182-acre baseball destination with four turf fields, on-site cottages, a team bunkhouse, a restaurant, HitTrax, indoor batting cages, a pool, pickleball, volleyball, disc golf, fishing, bikes, live music, a Wiffle ball field and more. In Where Baseball Feels Like Being a Kid Again, the biggest theme is simple: kids should have room to compete, but they should also have room to be kids.

That idea comes to life when Chris shares one of his favorite moments from the first season. A young player rolled into the dugout on a bike just minutes before game time because he had been fishing. Instead of treating that as a problem, Chris saw it as proof that the ranch was doing exactly what it was built to do. The player had fun, showed up ready to play, and got to experience baseball without every moment feeling like pressure.

Big E Brings the Player Perspective

Big E jumps into the conversation with questions about age groups, free-agent teams, food, lodging, fishing and what makes the ranch fun for young players. He also explains why playing with new teammates can help kids build confidence and learn how to communicate. Where Baseball Feels Like Being a Kid Again becomes more than a facility tour because the conversation keeps coming back to life skills, independence and creating better experiences for young athletes.

Chris also explains the Ranchers free-agent concept, which allows players to register individually and join a pickup team for the weekend. He says he has watched shy players arrive unsure of themselves and leave with new friends, stronger communication skills and great memories. That message fits perfectly with The SLIDE Podcast mission of helping young athletes grow on and off the field.

What Comes Next at Diamond Oaks Ranch

The ranch is already looking ahead. Chris discusses plans for lacrosse events, additional baseball fields, and more lodging. He also talks with Coach Aaron about bringing a GlowBall Nation event to Diamond Oaks in the future. The vision is clear: keep building a place where families can stay together, kids can play hard, and everyone can enjoy the weekend beyond the final score.

Chris closes with his walk-up song, “Back in Black” by AC/DC, while Big E gets an open invitation to visit the ranch. Where Baseball Feels Like Being a Kid Again is a reminder that youth baseball can still be competitive, memorable and fun at the same time.
